We’re glad this is in your hands.

Bio-Barrel Compost is activated homeopathic medicine for the soil and the plants growing in it. A small amount treats a lot of Land, and the way you prepare it matters as much as the preparation itself.

Read this page once before you open the package, then come back to it each time you spray.

01
A Living Lineage

What This Is

Lineage. Rudolf Steiner, Agriculture Course, 1924. Developed since by Maria Thun and Lily Kolisko.

Bio-Barrel Compost is our take on the preparation that biodynamic farmers know as cow pat pit, or CPP.

It’s based on the biodynamic method first brought forward in 1924 by Rudolf Steiner in his Agriculture Course lectures, and developed, researched and extended since by Maria Thun, Lily Kolisko and generations of biodynamic farmers.

Cow manure from a good farm is the base substance, the medium that carries the preparations. Eggshells, basalt rock dust and the compost preparations are worked into it. The basalt also creates a paramagnetic effect in the soil, which the Land responds to beautifully.

What’s Inside Ours

500–508
The core preparations

The main biodynamic preparations, 500 through 508, each playing their role: dandelion, yarrow, nettle, oak bark, valerian and chamomile.

Ba · Sr
Additional sprays

Additional sprays that account for the excess barium and strontium coming down from the sky spraying, to support the soil through it.

Light Root
Root activation

The preparation of Light Root, which activates the capacity of your plants’ roots to work with higher cosmic energies.

Then there’s the part most preparations don’t have.

The chamber this is created in holds consciousness technologies, including tensor rings and pyramids. I energize every batch by hand, moving chi into it. It sits on a specific vortex on our Land while it matures, and it stays protected from rain so the acid rain coming out of the sky spraying never touches it.

That’s why our Bio-Barrel works the way it does. It was designed for high energetics, for transferring cosmic energy into your soil.

On the Land

Where to Spray It

  1. 01On your compost piles, all over the pile
  2. 02Across your soil, all around the Land
  3. 03Around the perimeter of your plot
  4. 04Onto the grasses
  5. 05Around the base of your fruit trees
  6. 06On your winter furrows
  7. 07When a green manure is plowed in, or when manure or compost is applied
03
Timing

When to Spray It

Source. The three-day spraying rhythm before sowing follows Maria Thun.

Biodynamic gardening works with the four signs. Spraying under a root sign is a great idea.

Spray in the afternoon, as the Earth is breathing in. I don’t recommend the morning.

Root day + Descending moon
The ideal window

If you can, find a time when it’s a root day and the moon is descending, flowing from its apex down to its lowest point. Stack those two together and you have the ideal window.

The best place to start is autumn, after you put the garden to bed.

Spray in larger water droplets out of your sprayer, never a fine mist.

Maria Thun recommends spraying three times on consecutive days, three to five days before sowing.

This isn’t a one-time spray. Apply it multiple times until the package is finished.

Planning Tool

Finding Your Root Days

Use the Astro-Seek gardening moon calendar to plan your spray days for your own location.

  1. 1Open the gardening moon calendar.
  2. 2Select your location.
  3. 3Set the zodiac to Sidereal (Maria Thun) from the dropdown. This step is essential. Without it, your root days won’t match the biodynamic calendar.
  4. 4Add your time zone.
  5. 5Plan out your days. Look for root days, then check when the moon is descending in height. Where the two overlap, spray in the afternoon.

Dosage

How Much You Need

Reference. Maria Thun, Gardening for Life: The Biodynamic Way.

20–25 g treats one full acre

One package of approximately 20 to 25 grams treats a full acre. It’s strong, so half that will often do the same job.

In her book Gardening for Life: The Biodynamic Way, Maria Thun stirred 60 grams into five litres of water for an hour and sprayed it over 250 square metres.

Work out your ratio from there, and let the Land confirm it.

Step by Step

How to Dynamicize and Apply It

You’ll need
Purified water Bucket or crock Wooden stick Sieve Sprayer
  1. 01

Fill a five-gallon plastic bucket, or ideally a big crock, with purified water that carries no chemical residue.

  2. 02

If you have a structured water vortex or a tensor ring, place it around the vessel. If you have sun, let the water sit in it for a while and charge.

  3. 03

Break your Bio-Barrel Compost up nice and fine, then add it to the water.

  4. 04

Take a wooden stick, stand up, and stir clockwise for about 20 seconds until you create a deep vortex. That’s the chaos.

  5. 05

Pull the stick out, let the vortex collapse, then reverse it. Order and chaos, back and forth. This is what dynamicizes the water and imprints the frequencies into it.

  6. 06

Traditional biodynamics dynamicizes for 60 minutes. You likely don’t need that long. Ask the Land, Nature Intelligence or the soil directly:

show me a yes if I should stir this for more than 20 minutes. More than 30. More than 40. More than 50.

When you get your no, take the average between the last yes and the no, and stir for that.

  7. 07

While you stir, hold the intention for the highest good of all life. This is a meditative experience. It isn’t something you can rush.

  8. 08

Strain it through a sieve so it doesn’t clog your sprayer.

  9. 09

Pour it into your sprayer immediately and go spray. On bigger plots, a metal backpack sprayer is what I recommend. Big droplets, all around the soil, the perimeter, the grasses, the base of your trees and over your compost pile. Then let the energetics do their part.

Keeping It Alive

How to Store It

Keep the little package it came in, so you can always find your way back to this page.

Bio-Barrel Compost is living, so how you store it decides how long it keeps.

For one full year

1 yr

Put it into a glass jar, a small mason jar is fine. Cover the top with cheesecloth and seal it with an elastic so no flies or anything else can get in.

Store it somewhere dark and dry, out of humidity.

Keep it at least six feet from any electrical outlet, electrical source or source of radiation. Six feet is the bare minimum.

For up to three years

3 yr

Place a tensor ring below or on top of the jar so the compost sits fully inside the copper field.

Better still, pack the jar into peat moss inside a wooden box, with the peat moss coming all the way up to the neck of the jar and the tensor ring underneath, then store it to all of the specs above.

Traditional biodynamics makes new preparations every year. In our experience the tensor rings keep it going for a couple more, the same way they enhance the longevity of seeds.

Through the Seasons

Where It Fits With Your Other Preparations

1 · Bio-Barrel Compost →2 · BD 500 horn manure →3 · BD 501 horn silica

The two homeopathic medicines we commonly recommend alongside this one are BD 500 horn manure and BD 501 horn silica.

Typically, apply the Bio-Barrel Compost first, then the horn manure later. Dowse it and see what your Land likes.

Through the growing season you’ll mostly be spraying BD 500 and BD 501. Bio-Barrel Compost is a preparation spray for the soil itself, so it does its deepest work outside of that window, and on your compost any time of year.

If you’re only ever going to do one homeopathic preparation for your soil, this is the one.
